Keeping your screen or media player’s firmware up to date can help improve performance, security and compatibility with Fusion Signage.

Firmware is supplied and managed by the device manufacturer, so the steps for checking it will vary depending on your hardware.

## Firmware versus the Fusion Signage app version

These are two different things:

- **Firmware or operating system:** The software that runs your screen or media player, supplied by the hardware manufacturer
- **Fusion Signage app version:** The version of the Fusion Signage application installed on that device

You can view the Fusion Signage app version from the **Deploy** section of your portal. However, the device’s firmware version will generally need to be checked directly on the screen, media player or manufacturer’s device-management platform.

## Before you begin

Make a note of your device’s:

- Manufacturer
- Model number
- Current firmware or operating-system version

The model number is normally printed on a label on the back of the screen or media player. You may also find device information by opening the screen in the **Deploy** section of Fusion Signage.

## Checking the firmware on your device

Menu names can vary between models, but firmware information is commonly found under:

- **Settings → Support**
- **Settings → About**
- **Settings → Device Information**
- **Settings → System Information**
- **Settings → Software Update**

Once you find the current version, visit the manufacturer’s official support page and search for your exact model number to see whether a newer version is available.

## Samsung Tizen

On many Samsung commercial displays:

1. Open **Settings**.
2. Select **Support**.
3. Select **Check for Updates**.
4. Allow the screen to check for newer firmware.
5. Follow the manufacturer’s prompts if an update is available.

Menu options can vary between Samsung models and Tizen versions.

## LG webOS Signage

On LG commercial displays, firmware information is generally available within the screen’s **General**, **About** or **System Information** settings.

Firmware files and installation steps are model-specific. Confirm your full model number before downloading anything from LG’s support website.

Some LG models require a USB drive to install firmware.

## Philips Android displays

On many Philips commercial displays:

1. Open the screen’s settings or professional menu.
2. Navigate to **Android Settings** or **Device Preferences**.
3. Select **About**.
4. Review the Android, build or software version shown.

We recommend checking with your hardware reseller or distributor to confirm the correct firmware for your exact Philips model.

## Other Android devices

For Android screens and media players, the version is commonly found under:

**Settings → About Device**

or:

**Settings → Device Preferences → About**

The information shown may include the Android version, build number and security update.

## BrightSign players

If your BrightSign player is managed through BSN.Cloud:

1. Log in to BSN.Cloud.
2. Open the **Network** section.
3. Select the relevant player.
4. Review its device information and BrightSignOS version.

Compare this with the current version recommended for your BrightSign model. Firmware support can differ between current and legacy players.

## Windows media players

For Windows devices:

1. Open **Settings**.
2. Select **Windows Update**.
3. Select **Check for updates**.

You can also open **System Information** to review the Windows version and BIOS information.

Windows updates, manufacturer firmware and device-driver updates may be managed separately.

## Before installing an update

Before updating any device:

- Confirm the exact manufacturer and model number.
- Use firmware supplied by the manufacturer or your hardware provider.
- Read the release notes and installation instructions.
- Make sure the device has a stable power supply.
- Do not turn the device off during the update.
- Schedule the update outside your normal display hours.
- Test the update on one device before rolling it out widely.
- Record important network, orientation and power settings.
- Confirm that the firmware supports your Fusion Signage setup.

Installing firmware intended for a different model can cause serious problems, so always double-check the file before proceeding.

## Do I need to update the firmware?

We generally recommend keeping supported devices on a current, stable firmware version.

A firmware update may be particularly helpful if you are experiencing:

- Playback problems
- Videos flickering or freezing
- Application crashes
- Network instability
- Orientation or scaling issues
- Problems installing or opening Fusion Signage
- Compatibility issues with newer app versions

However, firmware updates can sometimes change device settings or behaviour. If your device is part of a live signage network, speak with your reseller or IT team before making changes.

## Need help?

Fusion Signage provides the signage software, while firmware is managed by the hardware manufacturer.

Your hardware reseller, distributor or installer is usually the best contact for confirming:

- The latest supported firmware
- The correct file for your model
- Whether the update is required
- The safest way to install it

If you contact support, please include the device manufacturer, full model number, current firmware version and Fusion Signage app version.
