Video Walls and Multi-Screen Layouts

Updated this week

Conventional video qall setups
When using Fusion Signage on a video wall, several factors depend on the specific configuration.

Fusion Signage automatically runs and stretches content to fill the entire screen of the connected device or display. For example, on a standard 1920x1080 resolution screen, the content will be scaled to fit accordingly.

In typical video wall configurations such as 2x2, 3x3, or similar, the aspect ratio of the content remains consistent. However, the overall resolution changes as additional screens are added.

Fusion Signage is usually installed on an external media player connected to one of the screens, which then distributes the source. Video wall panels often have internal loop-through capabilities, feeding the same source to other panels and slicing or scaling the content as needed. This results in content being stretched or scaled to fill each screen. If your panels only support 1920x1080 loop-through, then a 3840x2160 (4K) source will be scaled up, potentially leading to a loss of image quality.

Please note – some panels support 4K loop-through or internal media playback, but it’s important to verify specifications with the manufacturer or your reseller.

Non-conventional video wall setups
Most commercial and all dedicated video wall panels support tiling mode, enabling a single source of content to be stretched across multiple screens. This flexibility allows layouts outside of standard 16:9 aspect ratios.

When planning such setups, consider content creation requirements and the capabilities of the media player driving the displays.

  • If using a single media player or the onboard panels' media players in tiling mode, content will be stretched from one panel across all others, which can affect quality.

  • For these configurations, we recommend limiting to a maximum of two screens unless your media player supports higher resolutions (e.g., 3840 x 1080). Keep in mind that stretching artefacts may be visible, so test before deployment.

Multi-screen and synchronised menu boards
For menu boards or multi-screen solutions where synchronised playback is required, you can use our native synchronisation feature - see here. Otherwise, see below.

To display different content on each screen or perform full-screen takeovers, use a Windows-compatible media player with a graphics card capable of supporting large single-resolution displays (e.g. AMD Eyefinity, Nvidia Surround/Mosaic, or Intel Collage). Combining this hardware with our zoning feature allows for:

  • Playing unique content on individual screens.

  • Full-screen content takeovers.

Ensure your content is designed with the appropriate aspect ratio and resolution for optimal visual appeal.

Please note – if synchronisation or full-screen takeovers are not required, you can install Fusion Signage individually on each screen.

Licences for video walls and multi-screen layouts
Our licence model depends on the content source:

  • For a unified, stretched source across multiple screens – only one licence is needed.

  • For displaying unique, full-resolution content on each screen – one licence per screen is required.
