Recommended File Types and Settings

Updated this week

Overview

Fusion Signage automatically plays your content in full screen mode. If your media files have incorrect resolutions, you may see black bars (letterboxing) at the top and bottom of the screen. To ensure optimal display without letterboxing, create content that matches your screen’s resolution and aspect ratio.

Follow these guidelines to create compatible content.

MP4 (h.264 codec)

Use square pixels (1:1 aspect ratio). We recommend bit rate: 6-8 mbps.

Recommended media creation settings

  • Aspect ratio and resolution match the content’s aspect ratio and resolution to your screen. Most screens use a 16:9 ratio at 1920x1080 pixels.

  • Orientation – ensure videos and images are created in the same orientation as your display (landscape or portrait).

  • File size limit uploads are limited to 1GB. Compress large files with tools like Handbrake if needed.

  • Video bitrate & codec export videos at 6-8 Mbps using MP4 format with the h.264 codec (baseline profile recommended). Using h.264 at baseline profile ensures maximum compatibility across devices. Main or high profiles may work but could cause issues on some devices.

  • Resolution and pixels maintain 1920x1080 resolution with square (1:1) pixels for best support.

Max file size and compression

  • Upload limit = 1GB per file.

  • To reduce file size, compress videos using tools like Handbrake or online converters.

Troubleshooting – slide failures

If you encounter performance issues or receive a 'slide failed to play' error:

  • Check content resolution ensure your media files’ resolution is less than or equal to your display’s resolution.

    • In your media library, check the resolution listed next to each file. Make sure it’s compatible with your screen.
