When adding content to a playlist, you may notice that the resolution of your media doesn’t perfectly match the screen it will be displayed on. This can lead to black bars, cropping, or distortion if not handled correctly. To help you control how your content appears, playlists offer three key display settings: Fit, Fill, and Stretch.
Why These Settings Matter
Screens come in different resolutions and aspect ratios. If your content was designed for one resolution but is shown on another, these settings determine how the content scales and adapts without requiring you to redesign it. We always recommend to create your content in the exact resolution of the screen it is appearing on, but when this is not possible, these settings can help.
Fit
What it does: Scales the content proportionally so the entire image or video fits within the screen.
Result: No part of the content is cut off, but you may see empty space (letterboxing or pillarboxing) on the sides or top/bottom.
Best for: Preserving the original aspect ratio without cropping.
Fill
What it does: Enlarges the content to completely fill the screen, maintaining its aspect ratio.
Result: The screen is fully covered, but parts of the content may be cropped.
Best for: When you want a full-screen look and are okay with losing some edges.
Stretch
What it does: Stretches the content to match the screen dimensions exactly.
Result: No empty space or cropping, but the image may look distorted if the aspect ratios differ.
Best for: Simple graphics or backgrounds where distortion isn’t noticeable.
