What are Personal Access Tokens?
Personal Access Tokens (PATs) are secure, user-generated codes that serve as an alternative to passwords for authenticating applications and scripts with Fusion Signage services. They enable controlled, programmatic access to our APIs without the need to share your actual login credentials.
PATs are long, unique strings of text that you create in the Fusion Signage portal. They come with expiration dates, enhancing security for automation and API requests. This allows you to easily revoke them without the risk of changing your main password.
How does Fusion Signage use Personal Access Tokens?
Fusion Signage utilises PATs to grant access to our APIs. If you intend to use one of our APIs or integrate with an external workflow automation tool like Zapier, you will need a PAT.
Each PAT is user-specific, meaning that every user can generate their own tokens for use in scripts, applications, or automation workflows.
How do you generate a Fusion Signage Personal Access Token?
To generate a PAT, follow these steps within the Fusion Signage portal:
Click on the Settings tab in the navigation menu and select Security.
Scroll to the Personal Access Tokens section and click Generate New Token.
Enter a descriptive name for your token in the dialog box and click Generate. Make sure the name reflects its purpose to facilitate easier management in the future. Keep in mind that token names must be unique – consider naming your token based on its intended use period (like “Zapier 2025”).
After generating the token, copy it and store it securely. For security reasons, it will not be displayed again. If you forget to copy it, you can always generate a new token.
What happens when a Personal Access Token expires?
Once your PAT expires or is manually revoked, it will no longer function. Any scripts or applications relying on the expired PAT will cease to operate, and you will need to generate a new token.
We will notify you via email before your PAT's expiration date, reminding you of the token's upcoming expiry.
